Hiring professional movers can save you time and effort, especially for long-distance moves or when you have large or fragile items. What should I do with items I no longer need or want?

Moving presents an excellent opportunity to declutter and get rid of items you no longer need. Consider donating usable items to charity, hosting a garage sale, or selling them online. You can also recycle or responsibly dispose of items that are no longer in good condition.

How do I pack efficiently?

Start by obtaining sturdy moving boxes and packing supplies. Pack room by room, labelling each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. Use protective materials, such as bubble wrap or packing paper, for fragile items.

For larger furniture we offer a dismantling and reassembling service, which we can arrange prior to your move to save you time on the day.

How do I notify utility companies of my move?

Contact your utility providers (electricity, gas, water, internet, etc.) well in advance to schedule a disconnection at your old address and connection at your new one. Update your address with the post office, banks, insurance providers, and other important institutions.

Should I purchase moving insurance?

It won’t be necessary to purchase moving insurance when choosing Jones Moves. We are fully insured with all relevant insurances relating to the transporting and handling of your items at all times, throughout the year, giving you complete peace of mind that your belongings are covered.

However, some moving companies only provide basic liability cover which may not fully protect your belongings. If you choose a moving company that isn’t fully insured, you will need to consider purchasing additional moving insurance to safeguard against any potential damage or loss during the move. We recommend you consult with your insurance provider or the moving company for more information.

How can I ensure a smooth transition for my pets?

Moving can be stressful for pets. Ensure they have identification tags with updated contact information. Keep them in a secure and comfortable area on moving day, away from the chaos. If moving long distance, consult your vet for advice on how to safely transport your pets.

What should I do on the day of the move?

We understand that moving house can be a stressful experience, which is why our friendly team of professional movers will handle loading your belongings safely and securely, to transporting them to your new location and unloading them with care.

During packing services, we will need you to show the team around on the day, but then you can go about your day, grab a coffee and the team will call you back when they are ready to leave.

You can rest-assured that we will pack everything in an organised and professional manner, so all you really need to think about is children/pets and making the final checks to ensure all cupboards are empty, and the property is left clean and secure.

What should I do after the move?

Inspect your new home for any damages or issues and report them to your landlord or estate agent. Start unpacking and setting up your essential items first. You may wish to change the locks for enhanced security, and then all you need to do is update your address with relevant institutions and service providers.
